Jungles

ELEMENT │ REGION & BIOME

Jungles are regions of thick vegetation and dense forest typically found in tropical or humid locations. Fictional jungles may contain expansive canopy areas with hanging vines and treehouses. There may be uncharted rivers that flow through these regions that contain rapids and waterfalls. Deep within the jungle may lay ancient temples, ancient ruins or hidden civilizations. Forts, outposts, and outfitters may be located on the frontier of these regions.

Designing Fictional Jungles

Archetypes

Primordial Jungles
Wilderness

Overview

Jungles receive frequent and heavy rainfall, and floods may be common. Travel through a jungle area is slow and rivers may be the fastest route. The dense vegetation and tall trees of a jungle are an opportunity for worldbuilders to design fictional plants and fictional jungles often feature giant trees at their center.

Jungles may be the source of a fictional disease.
