Mythological

Mythological

Mythological worlds draw heavily from preexisting mythologies. Examples of these include the worlds of Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Gaiman’s American Gods, and Simmons’ Ilium & Olympos. Although in the case of Simmons, his world contains both mythological and heavy science fiction aspects, and Gaiman invents new gods to go along with the ones he has borrowed from Norse mythology.

When building a mythological world, or incorporating mythological elements into any other world, an in depth understanding of the source material is required. While they are very similar, confusing Greek with Roman mythology should certainly be avoided unless intentional.

Below you will find quick outlines of common mythologies to help you get started, although further study is very much suggested.
