Sacred Groves

Sacred Groves

Sacred groves (synonyms: holy woods, thickets, forests; example mythonyms: Woods of the Bear God) are a religious or spiritually important area of woods or sacred trees. They may have religious importance, they may mark a treaty between nations, they may be located at important historical sites. If the trees are large, it may be a forest of giant trees. In fantasy worlds, sacred groves may be magical, or their components (bark, seeds, leaves) may have magical properties. Sacred groves are home to monks, magical creatures, and spirits.
