Portages

Portages are overland trails or paths that link rivers or lakes or circumnavigate water hazards such as rapids or waterfalls. When traveling by waterway taking such routes may be necessary, especially when in wilderness areas such as uncharted rivers. Portages may require lifting canoes or boats out of the water and transporting them.
When designing portages consider why such a path is necessary and how long such a detour takes.
