Farms

Farms (synonyms: farmsteads, farmland; example toponyms: Old Joe’s Farm, MeCreary Farm) are locations where food is grown, and livestock is reared. Farms are necessary to feed a population (though they are often overlooked by worldbuilders who may favor large cities). Farms may have barns, silos, windmills, animal pens, duck ponds, orchards, gardens, storm cellars, grazeland and crop fields. They may be located on floodplains, near rivers, in valleys, or on other fertile areas. There may be towns or villages nearby. In fantasy worlds, farms may be sites of quests. In solarpunk and cyberpunk worlds they may be tended to by robots. In worlds with a war element, farms are often battlefield areas. Farms are home to farm animals, farmers, and aliens who have crash-landed.

Farm Structures
When designing fictional farms it may be helpful to first consider what structures exist on site. Farms are often composed to a variety of buildings, all serving a specific purpose.
