Floating Farms

Floating farms (synonyms: chinampas, floating gardens; example toponyms: The Floating Gardens of Iver) are artificial islands within a lake or other body of fresh water on which a small farm or garden has been grown. Though they are often referred to as ‘floating’ many are rooted to the lakebed. The islands are composed to layers of mud, dirt, and vegetation, and serve to provide both water and nutrients to the crops grown atop them.
