Flame Traps
Flame traps are traps that use a jet of flame to harm a victim when triggered. These flames may stay activated for some time before extinguishing themselves or go out quickly. They are often found in ancient temples and game dungeons. They are often triggered by pressure plate but may also continuously activate themselves (often with a set and predictable timing). Worldbuilders using flame traps should consider their source of fuel. While in many game worlds it may be unlimited, there may also be a limited supply and a fuel tank nearby.

Overview
Fictional flame traps are devices appearing in various fantasy and science fiction worlds designed to hinder, damage, or destroy characters by manipulating fire. The exact design and function can vary greatly depending on the fictional universe.
Here’s an overview of some common fictional flame trap concepts:
Alchemical Flame Traps: These traps use alchemical concoctions or exotic substances to create unique and dangerous flames. Such flames might be poisonous, adhere to objects, or even be colored for dramatic effect.
Magical Flame Traps: These traps utilize magic or supernatural elements to create and control flames. Runes, glyphs, or enchanted objects might be used to trigger the trap or alter the properties of the flames. For example, the flames could be cursed to burn hotter than normal or be resistant to magical extinguishing spells.
Mechanical Flame Traps: These traps rely on mechanical ingenuity to create a fiery hazard. Tripwires, pressure plates, or other triggers could release hidden flamethrowers, ignite pre-placed flammable materials, or redirect existing flames towards an unsuspecting victim.
