Cult Compounds
Cult compounds are buildings or complexes that houses a cult, religious sect, or those practicing a forbidden religion. Fictional cult compounds are often depicted as being a series of buildings located on a farm or other rural area. These compounds are typically found in places where the cult can conduct business away from the public. They may include walls, a church or place of prayer, living quarters, kitchens, and more. They may be self-sufficient. Cult compounds are home to cultists, cult leaders, and vacationers that took a wrong turn.

Designing Fictional Cult Compounds
Archetypes
Overview
When designing cult compounds, keep in mind the beliefs of those that live there. There may be an area for the public to visit and private areas reserved for members. Within the private areas, fictional cult compounds may contain elements like sacrificial altars (or just regular altars), candles, shrines, and occult writings. All of this may be contained within a hidden chamber.

A cult compound will serve the needs of those that live there and keep them safe from people that do not share those beliefs.
