Spell Books & Scrolls
Spell books & scrolls are written instructions on how to perform magic. By convention, spell books contain many spells while scrolls contain only one. These elements act like recipes or recipe books for the verbal or physical components that magic requires. They may be written using magic symbols or a long-forgotten or forbidden language. Spell books themselves may be magic and may demonstrate sentience. They may be found in magic libraries, hidden away in secret locations, locked away in remote locations, or near the bodies of unfortunate and deceased wizards.

Designing Fictional Spell Books & Scrolls
Spell books or scrolls may be made from rare or unusual materials – human skin or werewolf hide may be used to bind the pages while unicorn hair made into a bookmark for example. Notes may have been made in the margins. These collections of arcana may also have been written in an ancient language and may be decipherable only by those that have studied the tongue. Both spell books and scrolls often feature magic or occult symbols.
