Religious Sites
Religious sites are structures, regions, terrain features, or other elements important to a religion. They may be constructed elements, like temples, oracles, or ancient tombs. They may be natural land formations, like a mountaintop, secluded pool, or oasis. Or they be a living thing, like with sacred groves, sacred trees, or a beast of some type. If gods are real within the fictional world, they may be the domain of a god. Often these are places of prayer, mediation, or a destination for a religious journey. Wars may be fought over religious sites, and if they are important to multiple religions, sects, or important for both a religious reason and a geopolitical reason, they may reside in neutral zones. Religious sites are home to clerics, tourists, and cult members looking to bring about the apocalypse.

Designing Fictional Religious Sites
Religious sites are important within the context of a religion itself, so worldbuilders should first design or outline the fictional religion or belief system that this site is important for. The fictional history of this religion may provide insight into the regions, terrain, and/or places that may be important for the religion. This may be the birthplace or location of death of a god, messiah, martyr, or important historical person. It may be the site of a prophecy.
