Designing Fictional Libraries

Magic Libraries

Overview

The libraries of fictional worlds tend to be grandiose, multi-level affairs. When designing the layout of the library, consider adding great halls combined with nooks and alcoves. There may be restricted sections of collections of rare books. Libraries may have great fireplaces with tables and chairs for reading. They may have several stories connected by ladders and spiral staircases. There may be hidden doorways, secret passageways, and concealed chambers. They may have archives in their basements or sublevels.

Libraries are often burned during raids or uprisings.
