Raider Factions
Raider factions, whether they come from the desert wastes, the wilds, or elsewhere, are constant harassers to other factions or civilizations. These fictional factions pillage what they need (or just want) and often take pleasure in destruction and warfare. Their cultures may emphasize warfare as an honorable act (or it may be something they must do to survive an otherwise harsh existence). They may use fast and agile vehicles (boats, spaceships, airships, cars) or animal mounts to assist in their raids and quick retreats.

Designing Fictional Raider Factions
Archetypes
Overview
Where there are raiders, there is a response. Worldbuilers should consider placing fortifications such as great walls, forts, castles, mine fields, shipping container walls, or other world appropriate elements to help deter these raiders. Watchtowers, bell towers, or other advanced warning systems may be in place to sound an alarm. The raiders, in turn, will likely have developed strategies or approaches to avoid or diminish these measures.

Cartography
Raider factions may possess their own territory, which may be a civilization of their own or may be a lawless territory depending on how the worldbuilder wishes to design the faction. Often these groups perform raids across borders, targeting those living on the frontier or within borderlands. If the raiders come from across the sea, seaside communities may be at risk.
