Haunted Mansions

Haunted mansions are mansions that are a haunted location and are experiencing some supernatural event. Fictional haunted mansions may possess hidden rooms, elaborate crawlspaces, peepholes, dumbwaiters, eerie attics, creepy basements, libraries, studies, and other areas. The grounds of the property may possess ponds, gardens, woods, hedge mazes, wells, and small graveyards. There may be skeletal remains hidden in sites around the mansion. Haunted mansions may have been designed by a mad architect. They are home to ghosts, strange groundskeepers, and realtors looking to sell.

Designing Fictional Haunted Mansions
Haunted mansions usually have a tragic or horrifying history which results in their being a haunted location. Murders, unrequited loves, betrayal, and other stories of the human condition could be used. This history may relate to how paranormal events or ghosts manifest themselves on the grounds. For example a drowned lover may leave muddy footprints leading from the pond to the bedroom.

Layout & Architecture
While the architecture of haunted manors often speaks of wealthy extravagance, these locations often have secrets even the house is keeping. There may be hidden passages, hidden rooms, and peepholes.
