Fishing Shacks

Fishing Shacks

ELEMENT │ PLACE

Fishing shacks are small houses or shops centered on fishing a nearby lake or sea. Fictional fishing shacks are common locations on coasts where they often serve as places where fish and fishing tools may be purchased or sold. Often they are home to old, weathered fishermen with stories of pirate treasure, treacherous waters and leviathans. Fishing shacks may have nets, crab traps, and mounted fish.

Designing Fictional Fishing Shacks

Overview

Fictional fishing shacks are commonly crafted from weathered wood. Those in more fantastic settings may have been built from flotsam or the remains of shipwrecks. The interior (usually simple) may feature a hearth with fish soup, a cot for sleeping, and crates and barrels full of fishing gear. Often there are rafters from which nets and old boat parts are hung. There may be a fish shambles nearby or the fishing shack may serve as a place to buy and sell fish.

Often fishing shacks are used as shops, particularly in game worlds, where fishing is a common game element. In these cases, these shops will sell fishing wares like fishing poles, hooks, lures, nets, bait, bobbers, and crab traps.
