Rafters
Rafters are an area of a building that encompasses the beams supporting the roof (the actual rafters) as well as the associated catwalks, crossbeams, pillars, and posts. Fictional rafters are often a playground for fictional characters, a place where duels, eavesdropping, and nimble acrobatics occur. Unlike an attic, the rafters are not meant to be a traditional room and do not contain a floor, rather they are open to the potentially long fall to whatever level is beneath. They are commonly used in worldbuilding to provide an extra area for dexterous characters to inhabit, hide within, or strike from. The rafters may open up to the rooftops. They are home to rogues, cat burglars, ninjas, assassins, and other stealthy characters.
