Volcanic Islands

Volcanic islands are islands formed by volcanic activity. They are often found in ocean areas at the border of two tectonic plates. In fictional worldbuilding, volcanic islands are often tropical islands. They may include lava flows, lava chutes, magma chambers, and other volcanic elements in addition to coastal elements.
When designing volcanic islands, consider the status of the volcano. It may be active, dormant, or extinct. If people live on the island, they may have myths, legends, or religions centered on the volcano. There may be temples or altars near the rim of the volcano and perilous bridges and cliffside pathways to reach these locations. Volcanic islands may also be the lair of a super villain.
