Trading Posts

Trading Posts

ELEMENT │ PLACE

Trading posts are locations where a vendor buys and sells goods, either with a currency or via the barter system. Fictional trading posts are often locations where characters can exchange items they have obtained and/or purchase equipment (similar to an outfitters). Trading posts may be important parts of trade routes and may be located in remote areas such as the wilderness. If the area is particularly dangerous, they may be located in a fort or outpost. Trading posts are home to traders, store owners, and trappers.

Synonyms: stores, markets
Example Mythonyms: Joe’s Trading Post

When designing trading posts consider what their primary goods and services are. If they purchase fish, there may be traps and nets nearby. If they deal in rare gemstones, there may be security measures in place.

Trading posts are an opportunity to explore both fictional materials and fictional corporations.
