Threshold of Credibility
CONCEPT
The subjective level at which an audience will accept the fictional elements and internal logic of a fictional world without breaking immersion. The threshold of credibility depends, in part, on a world’s tone. Worlds that take themselves seriously have a different threshold of credibility than those that are whimsical or comedic – audiences are often far more likely to accept and/or be forgiving of misplaced elements or internal inconsistencies in comedic worlds than they are in gritty, realistic ones.

The threshold of credibility is a nebulous concept, as individuals have their own personal levels at which they are willing to accept a world.
