This Solution Doesn’t Get Involved
In worlds with powerful gods, advanced races of aliens with powerful technology, or other cosmic forces capable of shaping events on a grand scale, occasionally the problem arises why don’t they? Why does the all-powerful god send a hero to fight their battles instead of just dealing with matters themselves? Why doesn’t the ancient alien race of super powerful beings help their allies in their time of need? Why doesn’t that grand wizard simply snap their fingers and make the world a perfect place? One solution is to have these powerful forces have a reason to not get involved. These reasons are often slightly handwavy, and may be accompanied with vague statements like “we have vowed never to interfere,” “you must learn to solve your own problems if you are to grow as a people,” or “we’re just kind of busy at the moment with some other things.” Nonetheless, this approach can be a quick patch to certain problems that arise during worldbuilding.
