The Technology of the Future Will Solve It
Similar to how in fictional worlds magic can solve any problem, futuristic technology can also be used by worldbuilders to solve issues that may arise during the worldbuilding process. Examples of how this approach can be employed include the distance problem, especially when it comes to just how big space is. Travel to distant locations may take lengths of time that worldbuilders don’t want to tolerate in their fictional settings (think thousands of years for characters to reach interesting locations traveling across empty space). This problem can be solved by including future technologies designed to circumvent this exact issue (teleportation gates, faster-than-light travel, etc.) Technology can also be used to limit the impact of other included fictional elements. For example, if future technology is too deadly or effective to be compelling in a narrative, then elements like personal shields can be used to make the action more relatable.
