The Skies
The skies are a region above the ground often including objects in orbit or near a planet. The skies can be an opportunity to help set a worlds’ tone – dark clouds, illuminating sunsets, or cheery blue days can act as a background element. At night the stars may be present and worldbuilders may use this canvas to create new constellations or design worlds with magical auroras or constant storms. In fictional worlds the skies are often full of fantastic aerial vehicles or people flying by jetpack. There may be floating fortresses hidden in the clouds or magical floating rocks.

Designing Fictional Sky Regions
Overview
Fictional worlds may have multiple moons, multiple suns, or other objects visible (or hidden) when those on the ground look up. In science fiction worlds, large objects in orbit or massive constructions such as space elevators and orbital rings may be visible.
The skies may be populated by flying creatures – floating whales, jellyfish-like aliens, or great birds that never land. Consider if your skies are home to fictional creatures.
