Designing Fictional Arenas and Colosseums

Overview

When designing combat arenas consider the types of combat that is occurring. It may be one-on-one, team-based, or against an animal, beast, or monster. To increase the spectacle for the crowd, the combat ground may be flooded for naval battle, may be organized in a mock castle siege, or may be laid out in a labyrinth. Creature pits, pitfall traps, and other traps may be present. Modern versions of the combat arena have the crowd watching via camera while the combat occurs elsewhere in a meticulously crafted landscape and may last for days.
