Crates & Barrels

Crates & Barrels

ELEMENT

Crates and barrels are wooden storage containers for beer, wine, grain, rice, or other items. Fictional crates and barrels often contain useful items, may break or explode if damaged, or may act as terrain obstacles. If they fell off of a vessel, they may be flotsam or jetsam. Empty or old barrels may contain peepholes and may be home to a spy, mischievous child, or stowaway.

Synonyms: cargo, containers
Example Mythonyms: hidden cargo

Fictional crates and barrels are often depicted as wooden containers held in place by wooden or metal slates or rings. By convention, in game worlds crates and barrels that explode are often colored red while those that contain poisonous or other hazardous substances are often green.
