A posted bounty is a quest or job in narrative or game-oriented worlds where a bounty has been placed for the capture or judicial killing of a criminal outlaw. It is up to the character or characters to track down this bandit and bring them to justice. Posted bounties may be found at a bulletin board or law building or handed out by a contact, king, or law officer. The posted bounty may include information about the crimes the bounty committed, their general appearance, where they we last seen, and where they may be located.

When designing the encounter, consider where the criminal has been hiding. They may be laying low in an abandoned house, in the ruins of a building or structure, at a bandit camp or in some other secret location. There may be other criminals with them. Consider if the character or characters can utilize stealth to make their approach or if they are walking into a trap set by the bounty.

In worlds with evil or corrupt governments, it’s possible that the bounty has been placed on a freedom fighter or innocent person.
