This Solution Speaks the Common Tongue

This Solution Speaks the Common Tongue

PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS

In worlds with multiple fictional languages, developing a believable method for different civilizations, cultures, fantasy creatures, or alien races to communicate with one another can be a problem. Afterall, many stories, narratives or fictional histories may depend on these factions interacting. One solution is for designers to insert a common tongue or lingua franca. This common language, used by all or most important factions or characters when interacting, allows worlds to contain multiple languages without the issue of constantly needing a translator or making comically dramatic hand gestures.
