Core Territories

Core Territories

ELEMENT │ TERRITORY

Core territories are the central regions or territories of a faction or civilization. Fictional core territories are often used in opposition to peripheral territories, with the core territories depicted as wealthier, more protected, and more developed. Core territories are generally where any central government is located as well as where significant places of a civilization may be. Core territories may be home to palaces, government buildings, centers of art and culture, and the homes of more wealthy individuals.

Synonyms: Provinces, sectors, districts, borders, lands, zones, states, countries
Example Mythonyms: Center District, the Golden Realms, Hubworld
Territories

Overview

Those living in the core territories may be separated from the events and conditions of the more peripheral regions. This separation may be symbolic, or there may be physical manifestations of this separation in the form of distance or great walls. This separation can be used to explore themes of inequality and characters moving between core territories and peripheral ones may be surprised by the stark contrast.
