Cactus Patches

Cactus Patches

ELEMENT │ REGION & BIOME

Cactus patches are regions of terrain, often located in desert or badland areas, dominated by prickly cacti. Depending on the species of cactus, these places may be small patches of plants no higher than a knee, or may be areas of towering thorny pillars more resembling a forest. Fictional cactus patches are a place where danger and beauty meet, as a single cactus may be defended by thorns, and adorned with flowers.

Synonyms: forests of cacti

Overview

Cactus patches are thorny places to find oneself in. Because of this, fictional cactus patches are often used as hazardous terrain better off avoided. However, this may mean they make perfect sites to keep things hidden and/or protected. Bandit camps, secluded pools, lost ruins, and more may reside at the center of a forest of cacti, waiting to be explored.

Cacti can survive in arid desert environments, but they do need water to survive. If this water doesn’t come from the occasional rain, it may mean that fictional cactus patches are near underground rivers, oases, or dried-up rivers waiting to flood.
