Bottomless pits are holes or chasms in the ground that either go to extreme depths or are without end. Fictional bottomless pits may act as a portal and lead to another realm (spirit worlds, hell, or other locations are a possibility. Bottomless pits may be used for sacrificial purposes. There may be perilous bridges that span their breadth.

Overview

Bottomless pits often symbolize a descent into madness, the exploration of repressed memories and emotions, or traveling towards death and the afterlife. Fictional bottomless pits often act as terrifying maws where fictional cults perform human sacrifice.
