Advertisements

Advertisements

ELEMENT

Advertisements are a worldbuilding element that offer designers a chance to showcase a wide range of products, services, and fictional companies that exist in their fictional world. Advertisements may be posters, news ads, billboards, radio segments, television ads, ad blimps, hologram ads, email spam, or some other form of mass communication. When designing ads for your fictional world, consider the product being showcased as well as the company which produces it. There may be competitors also advertising their wares.

Designing Fictional Advertisements

Overview

Fictional advertisements are designed the same way as real ones, with a desire to showcase a product quickly and convince an audience to buy it. Fictional advertisements are an opportunity for designers to create elaborate fictional companies selling all types of wares. The advertisements themselves may feature company logos, products, and taglines. The use of color can draw attention to the ad, as can other sensory effects such as light and sound. In worlds where commercial sphere has been sexualized (cyberpunk, for instance) advertisements may be borderline pornographic. After all, sex sells.
