Music

Music

Music is a cultural universal that allows worldbuilders an opportunity to explore a fictional culture. Different cultures and subcultures may have different musical tastes. The design of new musical instruments is frequently done in fantasy and space opera worlds, and variations of drums, horns, pianos, guitars, and harps are all common.

Worldbuilders incorporating world specific music should consider the various styles that may exist in their world. Famous composers, well-known songs, and influential bands or performers may exist. Certain types of music or specific songs may be played at certain times or to mark certain celebrations or occasions. Individual countries may have their own national anthems.

Music is also an external element and can be used to set the tone of a world.
